Inspired by the Finnish epic The Calevala, the story begins with a potential blacksmith named Kai who is abandoned by his girlfriend Ranja. It starts a series of mysterious events that prevent Ronza from leaving town. Ash opens the chest of the legend, causing Kai to recall a past life where he was a semi-Chinese semi-frontier warrior named Sintai, destined to fight monsters in ancient China, threatening to enslave all humanity.
